AI Innovation Across the Curriculum: Games Adds New Course on Neural Shading in Partnership with NVIDIA

The Division of Games within the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Utah is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking addition to its curriculum for the upcoming year. In its continued mission to create a one-of-a-kind learning experience and prepare students for a career in game development and interactive media, the Division is introducing a specialized course in neural rendering, one of the most significant emerging technologies in real-time computer graphics and game development.  Taught by Tony Kanell, adjunct assistant professor in Games and lead engineer at NVIDIA, the course introduces the use of machine learning within the rendering pipeline, where the rendering systems predict and reconstruct visual information rather than calculate each detail.
