Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser Visits Master Games Studio

Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser Visits Master Games Studio at University of Utah

In a highly anticipated visit that captivated both students and faculty, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, toured the Master Games Studio at the Division of Games at the University of Utah.    The Master Games Studio, known for its cutting-edge projects and innovative approach to game design, buzzed with excitement as Bowser arrived. The visit was an opportunity for Bowser to engage directly with the next generation of game developers and to share his thoughts and experiences from a long career of leadership in the games industry.

Bowser’s visit included a tour of the new and expanded facilities where graduate students are immersed in hands-on game development.   During his visit, Bowser took the time to speak with students about their projects and future aspirations. His discussion with the students offered valuable insights into the gaming industry’s evolving landscape and the qualities Nintendo looks for in future collaborators.

In a special Q&A session, Bowser shared his journey with Nintendo and provided advice on navigating the competitive world of game development. The visit underscores the growing synergy between educational institutions and the gaming industry. By engaging with leading industry figures like Doug Bowser, students gain invaluable exposure to real-world insights and opportunities. The Division of Games, now firmly established as one of the top programs in the nation, benefits from such interactions, which enhance its reputation and provide students with unique learning experiences.

Michael Young, Chair of the Division of Games, expressed his gratitude for Bowser’s visit. “We are honored to host Doug Bowser and showcase the incredible work of our students,” Young said. “His visit not only validates the hard work and talent within our program but also strengthens our connection with industry leaders. We look forward to more collaborations and opportunities that will benefit our students and the broader gaming community.”

Last year, students in the graduate program had access to a collection of development kits for the Nintendo Switch, allowing them to build year-long game projects and deploy them on the Switch, with availability for download through the Nintendo online store.  Utah Games is the first university in the nation to have access to Nintendo dev kits, providing a remarkable opportunity for learning for our students.

With continued support from industry giants and a commitment to excellence, the Division of Games is poised to remain a leading force in the field, nurturing the next generation of game developers and pushing the boundaries of interactive entertainment.
