GAME SURVIVAL SKILLS

Talk Description: Join industry veteran Steve Derrick as he talks about all the survival skills that students need as they enter the game industry: portfolio best practices for all disciplines, making the most out of your time at school, how and why to network, and all sorts of other important info!

Bio: Steve Derrick has degrees from the University of Utah in Painting and Drawing and Computer Animation from the Art Institute of Phoenix. Steve has worked in film and advertising, creating storyboards and illustrations before taking a position in Upstate New York in 99' at Vicarious Visions as a Texture Artist. Over the years at VV Steve has held positions of Art Group Manager, Executive Group Manager, Chief of Staff and more recently Director, Organizational Development.
As Director of Organizational Development, Steve's focus internally is supporting VV's burgeoning talent with professional training and development programs, and its veteran talent with continued professional support. Externally this directorship places Steve in the role of community liaison where in that capacity built stronger relationships with regional and national education institutions, connects with government and other organizations to build the gaming community in the NY Capital Region.
