The Division of Games at the University of Utah has officially opened the Kessler Station for Student Success, a new undergraduate-focused hub located in Building 72. Designed as a central space for academic support, advising, and community engagement, the Kessler Station represents a major step forward in the Division’s commitment to student success.
Named in honor of Bob Kessler, co-founder of the Entertainment Arts & Engineering (EAE) program—the predecessor to today’s Division of Games—the Kessler Station reflects a legacy of student-centered innovation and support. The space carries forward that vision by providing undergraduate students with direct access to the resources they need to succeed both in and beyond the classroom.

The creation of the Kessler Station is one component of the Division’s PRESS PLAY initiative, a strategic investment supported by the Office of the Provost to expand the impact of the Division of Games as a world leader in games education and research. Through PRESS PLAY, the Division is advancing new programs, faculty growth, and student-centered infrastructure designed to support a rapidly growing and evolving field.
The Kessler Station brings together a range of services in a single, accessible location. Students can access tutoring support for core courses, connect with peer advisors for guidance on navigating the curriculum, and meet with undergraduate academic advisors. The space will also host workshops on topics such as portfolio development, internships, and career preparation, helping students build the skills and connections needed for success in the games industry.
In addition to academic and advising support, the Kessler Station provides access to high-performance computing resources tailored for game development coursework. These systems ensure that all students have the tools they need to fully engage in their projects, regardless of their personal access to equipment.
Miranda Klausmeier, the inaugural manager of the Kessler Station, spoke to the vision for the space as a living, evolving resource for students. “Our goal is to create a place reflecting Bob Kessler’s values advancing students’ success, where every undergraduate student in Games feels supported, connected, and prepared for what comes next,” said Klausmeier. “Whether that’s help with a class project, feedback on a portfolio, or a first conversation with an industry recruiter, the Kessler Station is here to make those moments accessible and impactful.”
The opening of the Kessler Station aligns with the Division’s broader efforts to expand support for its growing undergraduate population. As enrollment continues to increase, the Division is investing in new spaces, programs, and services that foster student achievement, collaboration, and community.
With the launch of the Kessler Station for Student Success, the Division of Games reinforces its commitment to creating an environment where students can thrive—academically, professionally, and creatively.
