
Division of Games Welcomes Sylvain Payen as New Faculty Member at the University of Utah Asia Campus
The University of Utah’s Division of Games is excited to announce the appointment of Sylvain Payen as Assistant Professor (Lecturer) at the University of Utah Asia Campus (UAC) in Songdo, South Korea. Payen will officially join the faculty in Fall 2025, expanding the Division’s global footprint and educational excellence.
Payen brings a rich background in game development, interactive media, and digital storytelling, with a focus on game design and student-centered learning. His teaching philosophy emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and the integration of real-world industry practices into the classroom—an ideal match for the Division of Games’ commitment to preparing students for the dynamic world of interactive media.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sylvain to our growing team at the Asia Campus,” said Professor Michael Young, Chair of the Division of Games. “His international perspective, creative energy, and passion for teaching will be invaluable as we continue building a strong, globally connected program in Songdo. Students at UAC will benefit immensely from his mentorship and experience.”
At the University of Utah Asia Campus, Payen will teach core courses in game design and development, while also contributing to
the vibrant academic and creative community that spans both the UAC and main Salt Lake City campuses. His arrival marks another step forward in the Division’s mission to foster a global community of game creators and innovators.
Located in the heart of Songdo, just outside of Seoul, the Utah Asia Campus offers students from around the world the opportunity to earn a U.S. degree while engaging with an international community. With Sylvain joining the faculty, the Division of Games continues its dedication to high-quality, globally minded education in one of the world’s most innovative cities.
